Barraca is a cozy spot in Kyoto serving generous paella portions and a warm Basque-inspired menu. Expect a full set meal with bread, salad, soup, paella and dessert — plus excellent sherries and standout sangria. The atmosphere feels distinctly European yet intimate, with helpful staff and an English menu for easy ordering. A great choice for those seeking hearty, well-executed Spanish fare in the city.

a month agoThe atmosphere is good. I lived in Spain for 12 years and it felt like Spain. The food was ok - I had the paella. Dessert was great though. What was weird is that the other tables seemed to be getting food that we could not order. We were given the English menu (despite me speaking Japanese) and when we snuck a couple of items from the Japanese menu daily specials we were told they weren’t available. The whole night it felt like we were getting a different experience. I wouldn’t go back because of that.

a month agoI ordered the pork sausage risotto, which was ok, but it was a pity that the rice core was not hard at all.

a month agoAll the food was delicious, and the service from the staff and chef was very pleasant. I'm sorry I don't have any photos, but the stewed cod was really tasty. I had just returned from a trip to Spain the week before, and I was hoping to experience a Spanish atmosphere and Spanish food, and the gazpacho really put me in that mood. However, perhaps because of the restaurant's layout, conversations tend to echo, or perhaps because the group of university students was loud, it felt more noisy than lively. But it was really delicious! I'll definitely go again!

a month agoAuthentic paella is made to order, so it takes 30 minutes. It's a must to go when you have time! There was a huge variety, and the seafood was delicious. However... The ladies on the floor were very unfriendly... I don't think they meant any harm, but I'm definitely not cut out for customer service.

a month agoI had a paella lunch in a cast iron pot at a restaurant specializing in a wide variety of paella. I ordered the classic seafood dish, an authentic creation that takes about 30 minutes to prepare. And what arrived...a paella chock-full of seafood! The seafood flavor was robust, with just the right amount of saltiness and savory umami! The large shrimp were cooked to a crisp and had a smoky flavor. Clams, squid, mussels... It was delicious on its own, but a quick squeeze of lemon added a refreshing touch. The heat was just right, preventing the rice from sticking, and it was truly delicious! Contrary to its exterior, the interior was surprisingly spacious and open. While waiting for my paella to be prepared, I enjoyed a salad and other snacks, making for a fulfilling experience.
