This is my third time at La Fortaleza. Sábados y Domingo is a Peruvian restaurant open only on weekends. One new change this time is the introduction of a Japanese menu! The previous Spanish menu now has Japanese explanations on the next page. The restaurant is as well-organized as ever, and the female staff speak Japanese, so it's reassuring. Let's start ordering! ◆Ceviche Mixto 1,400 (tax not included) This ceviche contains white fish, shrimp, octopus, and scallops. It's more sour and spicy than the last time I had it, transforming it into my favorite flavor. It's amazing with the accompanying sweet potato and corn. ◆Anticuchos 4 palitos 1,150 yen (tax not included) The anticuchos are skewers of grilled beef hearts. They're grilled to perfection and perfectly seasoned! The addition of salsa de ají adds a spicy kick that enhances the flavor. Best of all, this price for just four sticks is the best value! ◆Lomo Saltado ¥1,200 (tax not included) Lomo Saltado is a traditional Peruvian dish of stir-fried beef and vegetables seasoned with soy sauce. The vibrant colors of the tomatoes, purple onions, ajiamarillo, and cilantro add a touch of flavor! The bold soy sauce flavor is a big hit with Japanese people and goes perfectly with rice. This Lomo Saltado is served on top of fries. The potatoes, infused with flavor, are also delicious. ◆Carapulcra con Chancho al Palo ¥1,350 (tax not included) Carapulcra is a dish made by simmering dried potatoes with spices. I'm not sure what spices they're made with, but it has a gentle flavor that's different from curry. Chancho is charcoal-grilled pork belly. This hearty salad is topped with five fragrant, thick-sliced pork belly slices. ◆Chicha Morada jarra ¥500 (tax not included) Whenever I eat Peruvian food, I always order the chicha morada. It's a fruity, spiced purple corn treat that I adore. It's so delicious, we could drink a liter between two people! ◆Picarones (Free) After the meal, they served us picarones along with mineral water! This traditional Peruvian sweet is crispy and chewy when freshly fried and drizzled with a brown sugar syrup-like sauce. Peru, a country of gourmet food, is so much fun! There are about 10 Peruvian restaurants in Gunma, but La Fortaleza offers great service at affordable prices!
