メキシコ料理＆バー BALMIL

As Alabamians who've sampled Mexican cuisine in four different countries, my wife and I can confidently say that BALMIL in Kyoto offers some of the best we've ever had. What started as a casual stop for drinks and a bite quickly turned into an unforgettable culinary experience. We each started with a BALMIL margarita, and they were absolutely delicious – perfectly crafted and incredibly refreshing. The chips and salsa were fresh and flavorful, and the quesadilla we shared was simply outstanding. Every dish we tried was a testament to authentic and high-quality Mexican cooking. Beyond the incredible food and drinks, the hospitality truly set BALMIL apart. The man and woman working were genuinely some of the friendliest people we've encountered on our travels. They went above and beyond, offering fantastic recommendations for exploring Kyoto and engaging us in delightful conversation. Their warmth and welcoming nature made our visit even more special. If you're in Kyoto and craving authentic, top-tier Mexican food, BALMIL is an absolute must-visit. You won't be disappointed!

10/10 experience. I felt like Mexican so put Mexican into google maps and walked to the closest one. The food was amazing along with the atmosphere but I have to give a huge shout out to our bar tender. We asked him to create us some drinks that weren’t on the menu and they were some of the best cocktails I have ever had. This was honestly one of the best dining experiences I had ever had. The service was spectacular and I would highly recommend anyone who’s in the area to check these guys out!!

We stumbled upon this randomly and said "why not, let's try it", and ended up spending 3 hours here eating really good Japanese Mexican fusion food, and having incredible conversations with the owner and bartender. The set menu is very filling. The sauce is smoky and flavourful. You can choose from multiple hot sauces. Spicy ginger ale was amazing. We don't drink alcohol but those who do, you have a wide range of alcohol to choose from! When we went, it was very quiet so we had the chance to talk with the bartender and the owner. We had great laughs, exchanging cultural experiences and information. (Inside joke) I will come back with my snake Toto one day and it will samba with us. Had the best tacos I ever had in my life here. So glad I gave mexican food a try in japan! The male and female staff were also incredibly friendly and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with them. Massive thank you to them for the tip on the japanese liquid iv to help with our sore throats! 100% recommend this place and would love to be back if I visit kyoto again.

To be able to get Mexican food in Japan, this is a great treat. After being in the country for several weeks, it was a nice break. I was very impressed with what the small kitchen can turn out. And they have an incredible liquor selection as well. Friendly staff great service. If you need a break from Japanese food, check it out. Tacos, quesadillas and burritos. Chicken, beef and vegetable. J-Mex is the bomb!
