Restaurante Mexicano Aztecas

We are visiting from San Diego & my husband was homesick for our cuisine. He found Aztecas via google & they accommodated our family of 4, immediately, without hesitation. We were sat at the coziest table, surrounded by banda music & awesome vibes. The waitress also happened to be warm & kind. (her English was 100) I was skeptical at first because - Mexican food in Japan? OH MY GOODNESS. I will die on this hill - Japan does tacos better than SD, LA & Tijuana combined. Mind you, I am as mexican as you can get for a guera. The tortillas are made in house, the carne asada is better than Tia Rosa's & we ordered BOTH soups, which were even better than Tio Beto's back home. The salsas? AMAZING. Please come here. You will not be disappointed & you will be changed for life. We already have a reservation set for tomorrow. I have seriously never had better tacos & we frequent La Paz, BC. That's something special. I ♡ AZTECAS!!!!

Got my expectations up by reading the reviews left by some Americans, as a Mexican I was very disappointed. The food is not bad but is not authentic as some others say... and saying that is better that places like Tijuana, San Diego and LA is outrageous The service was the worst part, didn't even get offered water, which is custom in Japan. The waiter just didn't seem to like working there at all. She even forgot the nopal salad but wanted to charge for it... No lemons, no freshly made salsa, small portions so its quite pricey, we left hungry.

The food overall wasn’t bad—it’s one of the better Mexican options around, though not the best. The Corona beer would have tasted better with a lime; otherwise, it wasn’t worth the price. The ¥5000 course itself was good, but the way they communicate the pricing in Japanese, Spanish, and English is misleading. Nowhere does it clearly state that the price is per person, making it very tricky and confusing. This is one of the worst Japanese translations I’ve seen. They should explicitly state “¥5000 per person (minimum 2 people),” “¥5000 por persona,” or “1名様 ¥5000 / お一人様 ¥5000” to avoid confusion. If you drink a lot, you might get your money’s worth. Otherwise, it’s not worth the price.

This is by far the best Mexican food I’ve had in Japan! The portions are right, the prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is comfortable. The staff was friendly and they only brought out freshly cooked food, even the nachos with handmade. Do yourself a favor and go to Aztecas to treat yourself. I highly recommend this restaurant and I will be back many times in the future.

I was surprised at first because I had never heard of this place until I randomly decided to try and find Mexican food — if possible. I lucked out! This is probably the best Mexican food you will find in Yokohama. Their dishes were excellent, well portioned, properly spiced, and affordable. I will be making more trips here in the future.
