El Pancho sits on an upper floor in Shinsaibashi and offers a moody, cozy restaurant atmosphere in Osaka, ideal for a change of pace from typical local eats. The menu features flavorful chorizo tacos and crisp quesadillas with great texture, plus salsas that add balanced heat. Expect a stylish, intimate setting, eclectic decor, and hearty portions that make this a satisfying pick for a casual night out when you want comforting Mexican dishes with character.

3 months agoYou might be wondering why someone would choose a Mexican Restaurant in Osaka, well because there are so many amazing Japanese restaurants everywhere, it's nice to change it up! El Pancho is on the 8th floor of a building and is super dark and has a really good atmosphere. The setting is great for the food you're going to eat and the food itself is really good too! I got the chorizo tacos and chick quesadilla. My only complaint with the tacos is the type of tortilla they use, it seems to be a whole grain tortilla, which is not my style but that's not to say it made the taco taste bad or anything. It was super delicious but in my opinion, would've been much better with normal tortillas you get with street tacos. The salsa they come with have great taste as well and the red salsa adds a small amount of kick in addition to the flavor. The quesadilla had the perfect amount of crunch! Not too hard where it's annoying to bite into and not too soft where it's not even a quesadilla. I'm not sure exactly what they put inside it, but there was a good amount of cheese but it tasted wonderful. Overall, I would come back here next time I come to Japan and if you're craving something non-Japanese, it's a great option and not too expensive!

4 months agoAs a Hispanic this place definitely caters to locals. I’ve never ordered a plate of fajitas that didn’t come with tomate rice also they used way to much cumin on their fajita plate. The only reason I would recommend this place is for the atmosphere and the beans which did have the authentic flavor. Also there was a tostada that came with the fajitas that was good!

2 weeks agoThe restaurant has a nice atmosphere and a unique look, though I didn’t really understand the writing on the wall. The Mexican music playing was excellent, and I appreciated the selection of artists. I tried three tacos (chorizo, pork, and beef). The flavors overall felt a bit lacking, though the green sauce stood out as the best part of the meal. For someone new to Mexican food, it might be enjoyable. However, as someone from Los Angeles who has experienced authentic Mexican cuisine, this didn’t quite capture the flavors I was expecting. I was curious to try a Japanese version of Mexican food, and while it was a good attempt, it didn’t hit the mark for me.

6 months agoI payed with card, it's on the 6th or 7th floor you take the elevator up. It's kind of dark in there but I really love how it was decorated and all the signatures on the walls. I got a beef burrito it was really good. Threw me off a little cause the sauce was spicy but also tasted like American spaghetti sauce but I'm glad I went. I got there right after open and it's was pretty crowded

7 months agoI should start by saying that as a Mexican I cannot give this restaurant the Mexican stamp of approval for authenticity. I understand it is difficult to get by some ingredients such as corn tortillas but at least the sauces can be home made or the vegetables something more closer resembling the healthy food we actually eat in Mexico. What we got was actually more Tex-Mex cuisine and therefore it tasted more Americanized. However, if you want a meal that will fill you up then this is the place because portions are big and drinks are actually delicious- highly recommend the juices or horchata.
