Mexican Food Raicho Shrine

The first time I came here was on February 7, 2025, and I found myself returning exactly one year later on February 7, 2026. To my shock, they actually remembered me — a small gesture that genuinely warmed my soul.

I never expected to find tacos this good in Kyoto, but they seriously exceeded my expectations. The tortillas had the perfect chew, fresh and soft. The meat was deeply flavorful and not heavy, it had that perfect balance of savory, juicy, and fresh that makes a real good taco. I had the chicken and fish tacos.

What made them stand out was a subtle Japanese influence that elevated the taste. The tacos had a freshness and cleanliness in the flavors, light, refined, and beautifully balanced. The ingredients had that delicate quality you often find in Japanese cuisine, yet it still had the bold, satisfying character you want from a taco. Make no mistake this is still a Mexican taco! Make sure you ask for some salsa verde and roja! Squeeze a lime on top and you got the best tacos in Japan.

I'll also never forget the way the workers were literally sprinting around the place to find change for my cash payment, and how a friendly elderly dine-in customer assisted them in providing change. It really exemplified Japanese hospitality and made this place that much more special to me.

I will always come back here when I visit Kyoto, thanks to the team for being incredibly kind and warm!

Best food find in Japan so far - who knew it would be Mexican?!! Very cool little spot in Kyoto. Loved the ambiance, especially the upstairs where they actually have tables for group seating. Everything we got was so good. The chef is really talented - every flavor combination was interesting and complex. The Mexican, Japanese, and Indian fusion worked shockingly well. Even though we could barely communicate, the staff was amazing; so nice and happy. Looks like they love what they do which definitely shows through in the food!

One of the best Mexican food experiences we’ve had in Japan. Small, but truly fine. Everything was freshly made, full of flavor, and had just the right amount of spice.

A special thank you to the exceptionally warm and attentive staff member who took such wonderful care of us throughout the evening. The hospitality and service made the experience even more special.

We were traveling with our lovely son, who also had a great time writing the charm, making it a beautiful family memory for us.

And honestly, finding this place open at 10:30 p.m. after a long day in Japan felt like a true lifesaver. Highly recommended. Thank you so much!

Food was okay. The nachos they gave us was mostly crumbs. The tacos were just okay. But the chicken was very good!!

Extremely good food and quantity for the lunch deal. 1500 yen for a huge chicken breast with lots of sides and 2 tortillas. Delicious and highly recommend.

Upstairs seating is better as sometimes people smoke at the bar
