Kagetsudo is well known for its melon pan, and it’s definitely a quick and convenient stop if you’re passing by. There’s usually a short queue of around 15 minutes or less, which moves fairly steadily even during peak hours.

The melon pan itself is light, slightly crisp on the outside, and soft inside, a simple but enjoyable treat that’s best eaten fresh while still warm. We had one normal one and one with the ice cream, and honestly, I prefer the original one more.

It’s worth trying if you’re curious or already nearby, but if you’re on a tight schedule, it’s also something you can skip without feeling like you’ve missed a major highlight.

This was easily the best place in Tokyo to get Japanese melon bread. I was already a fan of melon bread at family mart, but the bread here took it to the next level. The shells were crunchy and sweet, but the fillings were cold and sweet. My SO got the match filling which was sweet and bitter, while I got the chocolate whip fillings, which were sweet and buttery. And the location was perfect, as it was at the heart of beautiful Asakusa shrines and natural landscapes. I highly recommend visitors to come here and try what authentic melon pan tastes like.

I just got the basic one, and it was already that good! Definitely worth the 300 yen.

The bread was served hot, which made the fragrant aroma even stronger. It’s the type of melon pan with a very crunchy texture. The sweetness isn’t overpowering, which makes it even more enjoyable.

There are also other variants with ice cream. If you’re only interested in the original flavor like me, don’t worry, the basic one is already delicious.

However, there’s no seating area, so you’ll have to eat it while standing, walking, or sitting on the benches around the Sensoji Temple area. I went around 3:30 PM on a Thursday, and there was no line at all.

    A must get in Asakusa!

Whenever we’re in Asakusa, we always make it a point to stop by here—they truly have the best melonpan. It’s best enjoyed fresh in their small standing dining area while it’s still warm: crispy on the outside and soft, warm, and fluffy on the inside. We’ve bought extras to take with us and they’re still good, but having it freshly made is on a whole other level.

The price is reasonable, and the bread is noticeably larger than most melonpan you’ll find at bakeries. They offer filling options like whipped cream and ice cream, but it’s honestly amazing just on its own.

Tiny little melon bread shop that would be easy to walk straight past, but the smell coming from it was impossible to ignore. The melon bread was warm, soft and absolutely delicious, especially with the vanilla ice cream inside. Such a simple treat but one of the nicest snacks we’ve had. Definitely worth stopping for if you’re nearby.
