9 meses agoWhat a dynamite little spot bursting with charm and small, but lively atmosphere! We popped in here on a whim to have a bite and were so pleasantly surprised. It's the most unsuspecting place and the female chef makes every dish by hand, with the utmost care and love. It was so enjoyable watching her as she prepared each dish, every one a little different than the last; one could come here simply to watch this with a few beers and could make an entire night of it. We enjoyed some edamame for an appetizer, and also had tempura vegetables, but we especially loved Wagyu Beef "Sukiyaki Style" (admittedly having no idea what this would be!). The server was attentive and showed us how to add broth from the beef into the raw egg/yolk and mix the beef into it for each bite, what a rich set of flavors! Don't sleep on this dining experience; it's one to savor, especially over any other option because of its intimate setting!

2 meses agoI came across this unassuming little spot and a couple who were leaving told me, “It’s one of those places where you just keep ordering more, highly recommend.” I knew I had to try it, but it was fully booked that night.
I came back another day (this time with a reservation), and it was absolutely worth it. It’s a one-woman show, helped by a kind waiter, so expect a relaxed, intimate atmosphere.
The food was…probably the best dinner I had in Kyoto.
Highly recommend stopping by and ordering a few dishes to share (the shiitake mushrooms with ponzu sauce are a must). Pair it with a glass of plum wine on the rocks and just enjoy.

5 meses agoWe stumbled upon this wonderful, tiny restaurant in the Gion District of Kyoto. It was warmly lit and welcoming, with a very friendly wait staff inviting us in and making space for us, although they were quite full already.
The food was absolutely perfect and delicious and I loved watching everything being prepared right in front of me! The small team were so hospitable. I wished we had visited more than once and I hope to return one day!
