The owner Alexis has truly brought the spirit and flavor of Cuba to Tokyo! He is so incredibly generous and kind, we loved hearing his story. Most importantly the food was a piece of home found halfway around the world. The croquetas, Yucca, frijoles negros, Cuban sandwich were all very good. Would highly recommend stopping by if you want to switch up your cuisine and enjoy some Cuban food! Will definitely be back when we return to Tokyo!
I visited the restaurant around 2 PM on a Sunday afternoon. It was about 70% full, but I was seated immediately without a reservation. Located in the basement, the space has no natural light but features relatively high ceilings. The atmosphere is casual, with light salsa music and simple decor resembling an American bar, though service was slow—my sandwich took about 25 minutes to arrive.
I ordered the Cubano sandwich set for JPY 1,980, which included soup, salad, and fries.
The Potaje de Frijoles Negroes (Black Bean Soup) was rich and medium-bodied, with a strong pork flavor and a subtle finish of cumin or chili. The side salad was simply tossed with oil, salt, and a slice of avocado. The fries were crispy and well-salted.
The Cubano sandwich was well-stuffed with an estimated 70/30 ratio of ham to pork shoulder, melted cheese, a thin gherkin slice, and mustard. All the flavors blended nicely, though the ham was slightly dominant. Be aware that the sandwich was heavily grilled in garlic, a flavor that lingered for a few hours after the meal.
Overall, the set offers good value for the amount of food provided.
It’s hard to find a place that is this warm and welcoming to anyone from anywhere. I was honored to have met the owner and I was really impressed with how grounded and friendly he is. For my first time in Japan I never thought to find a piece of my birthplace between so much diversity. I personally wanted to try all the dishes and make a complete assessment of the kitchen but after trying the appetizer I knew that I had picked the right place for an incredible culinary experience. I wanted to also try the authentic Cuban liquor that many Cuban American seek so much since it is prohibited in North America. I also noted that some Japanese people in the restaurant really liked the multiple selection of rum and cocktails that are in the menu. I unfortunately couldn’t experience the live music but I heard it’s a complete vibe and will come back to make sure I partake. All around a 10/10 experience. Is a must try on my book and will 100% will do again.
An amazing, intimate little spot where the chef's love of Cuban cuisine shines through in everything he makes. I questioned the reviews about how good the Cuban Sandwich was, but I was wrong to do that. Literally everything we had was amazing: Cuban Sandwich, Tostones con Carne, Ropa Vieja; all so packed with an undeniably true Cuban flavor.
The selection of Cuban rum is also not to be missed. The Mojitos are LOADED with mint, which is the only way I want them from now on.
There's lots of great food in Tokyo, but if you want something different, this place is worth the time (and the prices are very reasonable compared to other places in the area).
Authentic Cuban cuisine! We loved everything especially the Cuban ham croquette and Cuban sandwich! The black bean soup and the braised beef are also very flavorful and tasty. They have live band performance sometime. The chef and the waitress are super friendly, we would definitely return!
